Derby is described as a close-knit community of families drawn from nearby Wichita by its highly-rated schools and affordable home prices.

But Derby is not strictly a bedroom community. It has a growing number of small businesses and is working to attract more commercial investment. The area around Derby is home to several major aerospace companies including Boeing.

The city features miles of hiking trails, bike lanes and several green spaces. City officials also tout Derby's new library and its local water park. --B.R.
