Founded in 1930, the fourth largest grocery store chain in the U.S. has managed to never have a single layoff. Instead, they have thought creatively to eliminate other expenses, such as using their trucks to full capacity by putting more items on each truck and using space efficiently. The consolidation efforts have allowed the company to reduce its deliveries and lower its transportation costs.
