You might call this the Lexus LFA of its day. The goal was to build a sports car to compete against the best from Jaguar, Porsche and Ferrari and show the world what Toyota could do. Powered by a 150 horsepower 2.0-liter V6, the 2000 GT could go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 10 seconds, making it a remarkable performer in those days.

Unveiled at the 1965 Tokyo Motor Show, a 2000GT convertible appeared in the James Bond film "You Only Live Twice" before the car finally went into production in 1967. The car succeeded in garnering positive attention for the Japanese automaker but, given the huge costs involved in creating the handbuilt cars, only 351 were ever made.
