100 years of Lionel's model trains

For the last 113 years, Lionel Trains has been making model trains that mirror the real-life versions on America's railways. Here are some of the most iconic.

1930s: Lionel Jr. Diesel Engine

Lionel Trains introduced the Silver Streak Diesel Engine line during the Great Depression in the '30s. The line was modeled after actual trains like the Pioneer Zephyr, which was a diesel-electric stainless steel train. These Silver Streak trains were originally wind-up models but the company later produced electric versions.
