Netbooks are no match for the tablet
Netbooks grabbed the spotlight for a hot second, but they've been in the dark ever since tablets entered the market.
The cheap, tiny notebooks were supposed to have saved us from having to lug around our laptops. Netbooks have small screens and are lightweight, but they only perform well for very light activity.
Netboooks peaked in 2010 when 35.7 million devices were shipped worldwide. But they then suffered a sharp decline in 2011 as tablets became popular. IDC expects only 7.2 million to be shipped this year.
