KapStone has rapidly grown its customer base to more than 500 companies, up from just 100 in 2007. It boosted that tally with key acquisitions, while at the same time increasing prices. The combined result: Soaring revenues. The company sold 1.3 million tons of unbleached kraft paper last year, bringing in an average of $586 per ton.
