Why I Launched Here

V-tech provides environmental contracting and contracting services. Our focus is the Environmental Protection Agency's Region 6, which covers Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

Before, I was working with environmental health and safety in a power plant. I started the company with $600, working an hour a day. Our first account was a peat manufacturing business. From there, our company was able to grow.

Even though we're a small company, we've been given some tremendous opportunities to work in Hurricane Katrina and to pick up shuttle debris from the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. We have eight employees. Having such a small staff means that we're both spontaneous and flexible, and we're able to adapt a little more readily to market trends.

Many of our employees are in the 25-35 age range. They're enthusiastic, energetic people. Many of them are in the early stages of starting a family, and they know there are excellent educational opportunities here. Others lived in Dallas, got tired of long commutes, and came back to our way of life. You can get anywhere in Lubbock in 15 minutes.

And, of course, football is a big draw. So if you're a sports fanatic, this is the place. -Tina Peng
