Yes, we know Apple fans everywhere have a cultlike obsession with the company's products (and its CEO, Steve Jobs). We know Apple's product releases are now worldwide events, with the recent iPad unveiling hyped from Beijing to Silicon Valley.

But sales of Apple's revered products are matching the hysteria: iPhone sales doubled this year to 25 million, making Apple the world's third-biggest smartphone maker -- though it's only sold phones for three years.
