WRESTLING CHIROPRACTOR

(FORTUNE Magazine) – I BEGAN WORKING WITH SOME WRESTLERS IN my office. It just started with word of mouth. And after a while they said, you know, we could use someone backstage taking care of us. Now I drive seven hours one way to go to Universal Studios to do this--I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. One guy in particular, Raven, will typically see me before and after each match. Often he's bleeding all over my shirt when he comes in from a match. There used to be fake blood in the old days. Most of the time now, it's real. There's nothing fake about wrestling. The outcome is determined, but you can't fake gravity. These guys are jumping off steel cages and ladders. Their bodies are taking incredible punishment. You have to check their necks, their shoulders. You have to check for a lot of compression in the lower back. I know there are negatives to this. At the same time, someone has to take care of them. We marvel at what people are willing to do, and it's getting more extreme. Many of these guys are doing it because they want to do it. That just means I have to get better and better at what I do. -- Interview by Jia Lynn Yang
